Wow, man!

I took a few months off Newgrounds, and come back see you with a 4+ flash near the top 50?

I knew you had the touch. Your work has always been quality, ever since I first saw Chillin'.

Shame I've been so busy and out of touch lately. Seeing your rise to NG prominence is as inspiring as this movie's story! I liked the sweeping in visuals at the beginning and the basketball playing scene especially.

AligatorHead responds:

oh Thanks IMpetus. THats cool how you've noticed my progression.
im glad you enjyoed the basketball part.

You gave a piece of advice "anime"artists need.

Just like your review on my movie, the complaint is the same: I didn't like the music. A button to turn it off would have been nice.

But let's put aside our differences in musical taste and talk about something we have in common, and that's art. I liked that you use the method of "cross on the face". I do that as well, it ensures that one does not draw one eye higher than the other Off-set eyes are a common mistake of "anime artists" on the internet and the quickest way I can tell that an artist sucks. Hopefully some people can take you advice and draw better faces.

I also liked your "45-degree angle" rule for breasts... Tits are not always exactly like that but it's a good rule to keep anyway. A piece of advice I should add to any reader in general when drawing breasts: the height of nipples are usually about one head-length down from the bottom of one's chin.

All in all a good drawing tut but you could have made a more professional-looking preloader and perhaps added something like a frame around the perimeter so that you'd have more than a plain white background.

skull-basher responds:

thank you for the constructive critizism...I am making another tutorial right now and its about drawing anime eyes....I am improving alot and my buttons work much better and there is a button for music..

Nice short.

I disagree with the large amount of reviewers who think this is "too short", for if this movie were any longer it would have ruined the simple joke.

How did you do the "focus blur" effect toward the end? I've been wanting to do the same in Flash MX but haven't figured out how to yet. I know you can blur an image using something like Photoshop and import it to Flash, but it looks like you did it in Flash, and if you did I'd like to know how.

Ty107 responds:

What you do is, export what you want to blur from flash to a .png. Open an image editing program and blur the image. Then, import it back into Flash. Take the image that you blurred, make it into a graphic, create a new layer for the graphic, and what you are gonna do is make a tween. On the first frame of the tween, make the graphic so that it is alphaed (so that it is completely transparent), and goto the end of the tween and make it so it is visible. So what you are doing is tweening the blurred image over what you want to be blurred. If you have any questions, you could contact me through AIM, "The Anomaly 000" is my s/n.

Hmm, I know you from elsewhere.

I've seen your art on another forum, and at first I thought "I know this Lexi draws even better than this", and then I clicked the "read more" and found out this is two years old.

I know how difficult it is to make a flash of decent quality alone and on a busy schedule, so I can understand why this is so short. I still wanted to see more, there was no "brawling" that the title promised. If you do make real episodes of this I will watch them on NG, and further more I'm sure they will at least *look* great.

Samus-Aran responds:

Well I did mention it was incomplete. And as I responded to DL, I will remake the episode, and it will be 100% complete. There's no brawling in the first episode, but there's a school fight in the second. The first two episodes are complete storywise, but it will be a looooong time before any real animation comes out. Think Arrogancy, and you'll understand.

Not bad, yo.

That was cute. Liked the fake asian names in the credits, too. Got my 5 for preservation. It was short but it wasn't too short to be funny. ^^

Good work.

IsOnFire-2 responds:

SEE, THIRTEEN!? I TOLD YOU THE ASIAN NAMES WERE FUNNY! BUT YOU DIDNT LISTEN!

"This flash is gay."

This flash is sooooooo gayyyyyy and I mean that in the best way possible. ^_^

It makes me want to get a pedicure and decorate some houses. Queer Flash for the Straight Guy. Good work and you got my five.

And when it was over I played it again while I read some cheesey piss-poor "manga" webcomics. The song made the experience somehow a lot better.

RowlandRose responds:

haha, thanks for the unique review! I agree it is a "happy" movie, not too happy I hope...

Wow, just looked at the score on this one....

..and it's WAY too low. I'm voting for ya until it gets higher. You're on my "favorite authors" list now, and I read your webpage. ">hacking" is great.

Maybe "A story not from the past" isn't liked as much as it should here since the English is a little.. less than perfect. I'm not 100% sure what you mean by "cacatoés"... I'm assuming "cactus" but a google search leads me to French word for cockatoo (large white parrot-like bird, the ones with the crests on their heads)

Amai responds:

Ahaha thanks a lot. I was at 2.97 in the new entries column. Too bad, for 0.03 points more I would have been hilighted!

But please correct my english mistakes, I would be pleased. Cacatoes is the name of some tree or whatever.

Above-standard "Nerdimation". ^_^

I like to call cartoons that rely on videogame and japanese-animation injokes "nerdimation." Legendary frog is the King of Nerdimation, but this was pretty good so I'll call you a Knight of Nerdimation.

The fast-speaking voices reminded me of the old dubs before digitally manipulated mouths.

Zero-End responds:

I'm a big fan of Legendary Frog, and am proud to be considered among his ranks. Thank you! I shall strike with avengence as the "Knight of Nerdimation."

hahahahha!

Excellent comedy. Top-notch voice acting, and funny scene music. I liked the echo effect.

Too bad the closing credits music sucked. Oh, well, I can always close the movie before it gets there if I decide to watch it again.

I will watch again, so... it's FAVOR-IZED ^_^

Viper-Studios responds:

thanks dude i put alot of time into this even though im not a good drawer i dont let it take down my comedy

I like.

Ha, this is the shit that goes down in my neighborhood every day. Great style, the cartoon was basically what it would look like if Grafitti art came to life. Excellent.

I didn't know you could animate in Photoshop. I suggest you get your hands on Flash somehow. Flash is easy and you can make even better shit.

AligatorHead responds:

HAHA cooooool!!!! Nah, i drew it in photoshop, then i took all the frames and put it in, uh ADobe Premeire, im not really all about flash. I Like editing shit you know?

Note: My "Favorite Flash Movies" are not necessarily my "favorites"; Instead I have chosen to feature lesser-known work that I believe deserves attention. Many of my true "favorites" are in the top 50 and get plenty of exposure anyway.
